The Philippine delegation participated in the 14th ASEAN Education Ministers’ Meeting (ASED) and Related Meetings in Singapore, highlighting the country’s leadership in advancing regional education cooperation. The gathering also marked the launch of the ASEAN Five-Year Work Plan on Education (2026–2030).
The Philippine Embassy in Singapore, led by Ambassador H.E. Medardo G. Macaraig, joined the Philippine delegation at the Opening Ceremony of the 14th ASEAN Education Ministers’ Meeting (ASED) and Related Meetings, held on 22 July 2026 at the Shangri-La Hotel, Singapore. The delegation was headed by Department of Education (DepEd) Secretary Mr. Juan Edgardo “Sonny” Angara, alongside Senior Official Meeting (SOM) Leader for Education Dr. Carmela C. Oracion and Commission on Higher Education (CHED) Chairperson Dr. Shirley C. Agrupis.
A key highlight of the opening ceremony was the launch of the ASEAN Five-Year Work Plan on Education (2026–2030), which sets the strategic direction for regional education cooperation over the next five years. The framework aims to strengthen collaboration among ASEAN Member States in promoting inclusive, quality and future-ready education while supporting sustainable development across the region.
During his engagement with the Philippine delegation, Ambassador Macaraig welcomed the country’s active contribution to ASEAN’s education agenda. He noted with satisfaction the landmark Philippine-led deliverables that are expected to be adopted at the ASEAN Summit scheduled to take place in Manila in November 2026, underscoring the Philippines’ growing role in shaping regional education policies and initiatives.
Later that afternoon, Ambassador Macaraig received CHED Chairperson Dr. Shirley C. Agrupis for a courtesy call at the Philippine Embassy in Singapore. The meeting provided an opportunity to continue discussions on strengthening educational collaboration and expanding partnerships that support higher education, academic exchanges and regional cooperation.
