Vietnam and Singapore are strengthening cooperation in agricultural trade, carbon credits and environmental management, with Singapore seeking to increase imports of Vietnamese rice and other agricultural products.
Vietnam and Singapore are expanding cooperation in agriculture, environmental management and green transition, with a focus on strengthening agricultural trade and supporting sustainable development. The discussions take place as bilateral relations continue to deepen following the elevation of ties to a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership.
On 25 May, Minister of Agriculture and Environment Trinh Viet Hung meets Singapore’s Ambassador to Vietnam Rajpal Singh to discuss opportunities for closer cooperation. Both sides highlight the importance of information exchange, coordination between relevant agencies and the implementation of new initiatives in agriculture and environmental management.

Agricultural trade remains a key priority. Vietnam proposes greater coordination to support market access for products such as eggs and frog meat, while also encouraging Singapore to consider developing specialised rice-growing areas in Vietnam to supply the Singaporean market. Singapore expresses interest in increasing rice imports from Vietnam, recognising the country’s role in supporting regional food security and highlighting Singapore’s potential as a regional transshipment hub for Vietnamese agricultural products.
Singapore has approved imports of processed poultry products from Vietnam and continues to consider market access for Vietnamese eggs, frozen poultry meat and pork. The two sides also explore opportunities for Singapore to export processed meat products to the Vietnamese market, further broadening bilateral agricultural trade.
Beyond agriculture, Vietnam and Singapore are strengthening cooperation on carbon credits and environmental management. Vietnam welcomes Singapore’s support in implementing Article 6 of the Paris Agreement and seeks to draw on Singapore’s experience in operating carbon credit exchanges. Singapore also offers training and capacity-building support for Vietnamese officials, reinforcing the two countries’ shared commitment to sustainable growth and a greener regional economy.
