The “Kita Setandan: A Mamat Khalid Retrospective” film festival in Singapore celebrates the acclaimed Malaysian filmmaker’s contribution to cinema while strengthening creative collaboration between Malaysia and Singapore.
The High Commissioner of Malaysia to Singapore, H.E. Datin Paduka Anizan Siti Hajjar Adnin, attended the launch of the “Kita Setandan: A Mamat Khalid Retrospective” film festival on 14 August 2026 as Guest of Honour. The festival celebrates the work and legacy of the late Malaysian filmmaker Mamat Khalid, bringing his distinctive storytelling and cinematic works to audiences in Singapore.
The festival is a collaboration between The Rice Company Limited (TRCL) Singapore, Global Culture Alliance Singapore, Enjit-Enjit Semut Sdn. Bhd. Malaysia, with support from FINAS Malaysia and Astro Shaw. Through a retrospective of Mamat Khalid’s films, the programme offers audiences an opportunity to engage with Malaysian cinema while highlighting the cultural connections shared by Malaysia and Singapore.
A key highlight of the launch was the officiation of a strategic joint venture between Millet Holdings Singapore and Enjit-Enjit Semut Sdn. Bhd. to develop a new Sarang Art Hub in Ipoh, Perak, Malaysia. Envisioned as a creative space dedicated to advancing regional arts and cultural exchange, the hub is set to provide new opportunities for artists and creative practitioners to collaborate, share ideas and develop projects across borders.
The initiative reflects the growing potential for collaboration between Malaysian and Singaporean creative industries, particularly in film, arts and cultural development. By creating platforms for artists and organisations to connect, such partnerships can foster greater appreciation of each country’s cultural heritage while encouraging new forms of regional creative expression.
The High Commission of Malaysia continues to encourage meaningful creative partnerships between Malaysian and Singaporean artists, cultural institutions and creative organisations.
