Malaysia’s National Day and Malaysia Day reception highlighted bilateral ties with Singapore
The High Commission of Malaysia in Singapore hosted the National Day and Malaysia Day 2026 Reception on 10 September 2026, attended by around 600 guests from the diplomatic corps, the Malaysian community and Singaporean community. The reception celebrated Malaysia’s 69th National Day and 63rd Malaysia Day while highlighting the close relationship and shared interests between Malaysia and Singapore.
H.E. Datin Paduka Anizan Siti Hajjar Adnin, High Commissioner of Malaysia to Singapore, addressed guests during the reception and highlighted the importance of maintaining strong and forward-looking bilateral relations. She identified closer economic integration, enhanced connectivity and stronger people-to-people ties as key areas supporting continued engagement between the two countries.
The High Commissioner also highlighted the Johor-Singapore Special Economic Zone (JS-SEZ) and the Rapid Transit System (RTS) Link as key developments expected to provide benefits to Malaysia and Singapore. Both initiatives were cited in the context of closer economic and physical connections between the neighbouring countries.
Guest of Honour Mr. Chee Hong Tat, Minister for National Development of Singapore, also spoke at the reception, underscoring the close partnership between Malaysia and Singapore. He highlighted the value of both countries learning from one another and working together to address practical challenges of shared interest.
Among the areas he identified were connectivity, water and flood management, and the development of liveable and sustainable communities. His remarks reflected the continued engagement between Malaysia and Singapore on issues that affect both countries and their communities.
The reception provided an occasion for Malaysian and Singaporean guests, members of the diplomatic corps and the Malaysian community to commemorate Malaysia’s national occasions in Singapore. It also highlighted the countries’ shared aspirations and continued bilateral engagement in areas including connectivity, economic integration and people-to-people relations.
The National Day and Malaysia Day celebrations in Singapore took place as Malaysia commemorated 69 years of National Day and 63 years of Malaysia Day in 2026.
