PM Lawrence Wong highlighted TRC’s role in supporting Singapore’s Tamil community for 75 years
Prime Minister and Minister for Finance Lawrence Wong returned to the Tamil Representatives Council (TRC) to commemorate its 75th anniversary and recognise its longstanding contributions to Singapore’s Tamil community.
For 75 years, TRC has brought Tamil organisations together and supported the community through education, outreach and youth development. Its work has also contributed to the preservation and promotion of Tamil language and culture in Singapore.
Looking ahead to TRC’s centenary, Prime Minister Wong said he looked forward to seeing the Tamil community continue to grow while remaining rooted in its heritage and contributing to a stronger and more united Singapore.
The 75th anniversary provides an opportunity to reflect on TRC’s role in supporting the Tamil community and its continued engagement with Tamil organisations in Singapore. The council’s work has included initiatives in education, community outreach and youth development, alongside efforts to sustain Tamil language and cultural heritage.
As TRC looks towards its 100th anniversary, its ongoing role will continue to include supporting the community and encouraging younger generations to remain connected to their heritage while contributing to Singapore’s wider society.
