Chinese and Singaporean officials discussed bilateral ties during National Day celebrations in Singapore.
The Embassy of the People’s Republic of China in Singapore hosted a reception on 21 September 2026 to celebrate the 77th anniversary of the founding of the People’s Republic of China. Ms Indranee Rajah, Minister in the Prime Minister’s Office and Second Minister for Finance and National Development, attended and delivered remarks on behalf of the Singaporean government.

Held in Singapore ahead of China’s National Day and the Mid-Autumn Festival, the reception was attended by Members of Parliament, members of the Diplomatic Corps, Chinese compatriots and guests from various sectors. The programme included traditional Chinese cuisine, a Peking Opera flash mob medley presented jointly by Chinese and Singaporean performers, and an animated robot crosstalk performance.
In his remarks, H.E. Cao Zhongming, Ambassador of China to Singapore, said China and Singapore had continued to make progress in their “all-round high-quality future-oriented partnership” under the strategic guidance of their leaders.
Ambassador Cao highlighted recent high-level exchanges, including Singaporean leaders’ visits to China and Chinese leaders’ engagements with Singapore. He noted that the 22nd meeting of the China-Singapore Joint Council for Bilateral Cooperation was scheduled to take place in October 2026.
He also outlined developments in China’s economic growth, technological innovation, green transition and social development. According to his remarks, China’s GDP grew by 4.7 per cent year on year in the first half of 2026, while the total value of goods imported and exported increased by 17.6 per cent from January to August.
On bilateral cooperation, Ambassador Cao said China looked forward to working with Singapore to “continue to deepen political mutual trust, and expand practical cooperation” in trade and investment, artificial intelligence, the digital economy, clean energy, education, science and technology, and people-to-people exchanges.
He also highlighted China-ASEAN relations, saying China remained committed to building a closer China-ASEAN community with a shared future and supported ASEAN centrality in the regional architecture.
The Ambassador concluded by expressing confidence in the continued development of China-Singapore relations and conveyed his wishes for prosperity, happiness and good health for the peoples of both countries.
