Exercise Bersama Lima 2026 officially opened with Australia, Singapore, Malaysia, New Zealand and the United Kingdom participating under the Five Power Defence Arrangements (FPDA). The exercise provided an opportunity for the five participating countries to conduct joint training, exchange expertise and advance defence cooperation.

The annual exercise brought personnel from the five FPDA members together for military training and professional engagement. Australia and Singapore participated as part of their established defence relationship, while also operating alongside Malaysia, New Zealand and the United Kingdom.

For Australia and Singapore, Exercise Bersama Lima 2026 provided an opportunity to work with regional partners through a multilateral defence framework. The exercise also supported continued interaction between military personnel from the participating countries through combined training activities and the exchange of professional knowledge.

The Five Power Defence Arrangements provide the framework for defence cooperation between Australia, Singapore, Malaysia, New Zealand and the United Kingdom. Exercise Bersama Lima is conducted under the arrangements and provides participating personnel with opportunities to train alongside partner forces.

The 2026 exercise focused on practical cooperation through joint activities and the sharing of military expertise. Participation enabled personnel to work with counterparts from the other FPDA members while developing familiarity with procedures and operating alongside partner forces.
