Learn about Singapore’s history and founding values at the National Museum of Singapore’s Founders’ Memorial pilot exhibition, featuring innovative technologies and interactive experiences. Admission is free for Singaporeans and Permanent Residents

THE National Museum of Singapore invites Singaporeans and Permanent Residents to the Founders’ Memorial’s pilot exhibition, “Semangat yang Baru: Forging a New Singapore Spirit,” to learn about Singapore’s history and founding values. This exhibition provides an opportunity to explore the challenges faced by our founding leaders and generation during Singapore’s nation-building years of the 1950s to 1970s, and how their values and principles shaped the foundation of independent Singapore. The Founders’ Memorial aims to commemorate our founding leaders and their values and encourage future generations to reflect on these values and their significance.

Daching Pig Weighing Scale
Character Companion

This exhibition features artefacts such as a daching pig weighing scale contributed by Mr Tan Kah Hoe and Mdm Amy Phua, reflecting the tough decision of phasing out pig farming in Singapore to protect the environment. In addition, visitors can engage in interactive experiences such as role-playing tours and multimedia kiosks to discover which of the founding values they identify with most. The exhibition uses innovative technologies such as cloud infrastructure and 5G connectivity to provide an authentic and personalised storytelling experience, and visitors will be guided through the exhibition by virtual guides known as “Character Companions”.

As we commemorate the 100th anniversary of Mr Lee Kuan Yew’s birth, the exhibition also features a special digital trail spanning the post-war Singapore section of the Singapore History Gallery. Visitors are invited to embark on a trail in the exhibition to find out more about Mr Lee’s legacy and the values he embodied. The National Heritage Board’s museums have planned other activities to commemorate this anniversary, including a short film based on Mr Lee’s historic speeches and a pop-up exhibition in August for children to learn about Singapore’s founding Prime Minister.

Admission to the exhibition is free for all Singaporeans and Permanent Residents. The Founders’ Memorial’s pilot exhibition, “Semangat yang Baru: Forging a New Singapore Spirit,” is an excellent opportunity to reflect on Singapore’s history and founding values and what they mean for us today. Head down to the National Museum of Singapore to experience this innovative and educational exhibition.
