Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong expressed his delight in joining the celebration of Allkin Singapore’s 45th Anniversary at their Charity Dinner held on October 27, 2023. He highlighted the importance of families as the foundation of society and emphasized the role of Family Service Centres (FSCs) in providing vital support to families facing challenges.

In his speech, PM Lee acknowledged the evolving landscape of family dynamics, with more parents working and the emergence of “Young Seniors” who balance caring for both their children and elderly parents. He underscored the government’s commitment to supporting families, ensuring stability, and upholding family values.

Allkin Singapore, originally established as the Ang Mo Kio Family Service Centre in 1978, has since grown into a leading community-based social service agency, extending its services to various towns. The rebranding to Allkin Singapore reflects their expanded scope, but PM Lee expressed hope that the organization would always hold a special place for Ang Mo Kio.

Allkin’s comprehensive range of services, including casework, counseling, groupwork, and community programs, has empowered families to create brighter futures. Their impact has been particularly notable during the COVID-19 pandemic, as they responded to the government’s call to provide support for rough sleepers and operated transitional shelters for the homeless.

Looking ahead, PM Lee emphasized the importance of renewing the social compact through initiatives like Forward Singapore. He commended Allkin and other community partners for their essential role in building a united nation, emphasizing the responsibilities of individuals, contributions from the community, and support from the government.

PM Lee lauded Allkin’s efforts to bring assistance closer to residents by establishing centers like the one at Block 326 in Ang Mo Kio. He also highlighted their involvement in the ComLink program, which supports families in rental flats, and encouraged participation in its enhancements.

The Prime Minister expressed gratitude towards the community, corporate partners, volunteers, and donors whose contributions are pivotal in helping those in need. He took a moment to recognize Dr. S Vasoo, a longstanding advisor to AMKFSC, for his nearly 40 years of dedicated service, awarding him with a Lifetime Achievement Award.

In closing, PM Lee emphasized that the collective efforts of society are essential in nurturing and building lives, strengthening families and communities, and creating a more inclusive and caring Singapore. He praised Allkin’s services and community initiatives for their integral role in realizing this vision.
