Mr. Heng Chee How emphasizes open, inclusive cooperation at the Seoul Defense Dialogue, reinforcing bilateral ties with ROK counterparts

SENIOR Minister of State for Defence, Mr. Heng Chee How, paid a four-day visit to the Republic of Korea (ROK) to participate in the Seoul Defense Dialogue (SDD) and the Seoul International Aerospace and Defense Exhibition (ADEX) from 16th to 19th October 2023.

During the SDD, Mr. Heng delivered a keynote address at the second plenary session, underscoring the importance of maintaining an open and inclusive environment in the ASEAN and Asia-Pacific region. He urged nations to collaborate in strengthening practical cooperation, promoting dialogue, and ensuring open lines of communication.

On the sidelines of the SDD, Mr. Heng engaged in bilateral discussions with ROK Vice-Minister of National Defense, Shin Beom-chul, and First Deputy Director in the Office of National Security, Kim Tae-hyo. Both parties reaffirmed the robust and amicable bilateral defense relations between Singapore and the ROK. They also exchanged perspectives on evolving regional security dynamics.

Organised by the ROK Ministry of National Defense, the annual Seoul Defense Dialogue serves as a Track 1.5 Forum, bringing together government officials and subject matter experts to deliberate on security concerns within the Asia-Pacific. This year’s theme, “Cooperation and Solidarity for Freedom, Peace, and Prosperity,” underscores the collaborative effort towards a secure and prosperous future in the region.
