Australia and Singapore marked the first anniversary of signing the Singapore-Australia Green Economy Agreement (GEA) to promote the development of Green Technology

AUSTRALIA and Singapore marked the first anniversary of signing the Singapore-Australia Green Economy Agreement (GEA) on 18th October 2023. The GEA aims to strengthen cooperation between the two countries in the areas of renewable energy, sustainable urban development, and green finance. The agreement also seeks to promote trade and investment in green goods and services, and to support the development of green technologies. The GEA is part of a broader effort by both countries to address climate change and promote sustainable development. The anniversary was celebrated with a virtual event that highlighted the achievements of the GEA over the past year and discussed plans for future cooperation.
In a statement released by the Australian government Foreign Affairs and Trade, Minister for Trade and Tourism, Senator the Hon Don Farrell and Singaporean Minister for Trade and Industry, Mr Gan Kim Yong, have commemorated the first year anniversary of signing the GEA and released their respective messages.

Under the GEA, Australia and Singapore are collaborating by:
• promoting trade in environmental goods and services
• decarbonising the shipping and maritime industry, including a commitment to establish a ‘green shipping corridor’ using low emissions shipping fuel by 2025
• fostering business collaboration, including through a Go-Green Co-Innovation grants program to encourage Australian and Singaporean SMEs to work together to foster green innovations
• promoting sustainable finance and green investment,
• sharing insights into policies and programs that build green skills and workforce; and
• increasing the compatibility of standards to facilitate trade.
