From January 19 to 28, 2024, Singapore Art Week (SAW) will transform the city with over 130 art experiences, showcasing the best of Southeast Asian visual art.
The eagerly awaited Singapore Art Week (SAW) is set to return from January 19 to 28, 2024, offering an extensive array of visual arts experiences across Singapore. Organized by the National Arts Council (NAC) and supported by the Singapore Tourism Board (STB), this 12th edition of SAW promises to be an immersive event that brings together artists, collectors, and enthusiasts from around the world.
Visitors can expect a diverse range of art encounters, including international art fairs, museum exhibitions, private collections, street art installations, and community art activities. With events spanning from the heartlands to the urban core, SAW aims to redefine the boundaries of visual arts and cultivate a deeper connection between people of all backgrounds and ages with the world of art.
Ms. Lynette Pang, Deputy Chief Executive Officer of NAC, emphasized, “SAW is Singapore’s pinnacle visual arts season and an important moment for Singapore’s fast-growing arts scene to take centre stage.” She invited both local and international audiences to engage with the distinctive and vibrant arts scene and culture of Singapore.
SAW 2024 will celebrate Singapore’s rich art history while exploring new creative intersections through projects like Boedi Widjaja’s collaboration with geneticist Associate Professor Eric Yap, which intricately weaves together art and science. The public will also have exclusive access to open studio sessions with established Singaporean artists like Teo Eng Seng and Tan Swie Hian.
One of the marquee events, Light to Night Singapore 2024, will transform the Civic District with immersive projections and art installations centered around the theme “Reimagine.” This event is organized by the National Gallery Singapore in collaboration with other cultural institutions.
Singapore Art Museum (SAM) will host the first mid-career survey exhibition of renowned artist Ho Tzu Nyen. The exhibition will span two decades of the artist’s practice, showcasing a wide range of paintings, films, theatrical performances, and video installations.
Private collections will also take center stage during SAW 2024, with showcases featuring notable Singaporean pioneers such as Lee Wen and Vincent Leow.
As Singapore solidifies its position as an arts hub in Southeast Asia, SAW 2024 is expected to be a vital meeting point for artists, curators, collectors, and audiences from the region and beyond. The collaboration with Hyundai Artlab’s VH AWARD and the presentation of Translations: Afro-Asian Poetics at Gillman Barracks are just a few examples of the exciting new programs and collaborations lined up for this edition.
ART SG, the leading international art fair, will return with a stellar lineup of regional and global exhibitors, while S.E.A. Focus, the homegrown platform for Southeast Asian contemporary art, will showcase the finest established and emerging talents from the region.
Mr. Yap Chin Siang, Deputy Chief Executive Officer of STB, expressed his excitement for SAW 2024, highlighting that the event will not only invigorate the city with innovative art experiences but also strengthen Singapore’s reputation as a regional arts hub.
