Dr Ng Eng Hen Engages with Regional Defence Officials at the Prestigious Forum, Addresses Key Security Concerns
SINGAPORE’S Minister for Defence, Dr Ng Eng Hen, participated in the inaugural ceremony of the 10th Beijing Xiangshan Forum on October 30, 2023. During the event, Dr Ng engaged in meaningful discussions with senior officials from the People’s Liberation Army and various defence ministers from ASEAN and the wider region.
In a significant highlight, Dr Ng also graced the Opening Dinner for the forum, where General Zhang Youxia, Vice Chairman of the Central Military Commission, delivered the opening remarks. This event served as a platform for key stakeholders to establish valuable connections and exchange crucial insights on matters of regional and global security.
During the forthcoming plenary session titled “Asia-Pacific Security Architecture: Present and Future,” Dr Ng is set to deliver a keynote address, emphasizing the importance of collaborative efforts in maintaining security in the Asia-Pacific region. He will also meet with General He Weidong, Vice Chairman of the Central Military Commission, to further bolster bilateral ties and discuss pivotal security issues.
The Beijing Xiangshan Forum, jointly organized by the China Association of Military Sciences and the China Institute for International Strategic Studies, stands as a vital forum for high-level leaders in the realms of defence, military, and foreign affairs from across the globe. The discussions at this year’s forum encompass a broad spectrum of security concerns, including the responsibilities of major nations in fostering global security cooperation, the role of developing nations in global security, and the imperative connection between regional security and development.
