A fascinating snapshot of life in Mongolia can be experienced at the Chrysanthemum Charm exhibition that is now on at Gardens by the Bay till 13th November 2023

THE exhibition is inspired by the beautiful grasslands of Mongolia, and features over 80 varieties of chrysanthemums and other flowers native to Mongolia. There is also a life-sized Mongolian “ger” home that visitors can step in and explore! IN Diplomacy was honoured when Mongolian Ambassador to Singapore, H.E. Enkhbayar Sosorbaram invited a small group of guests that included IN Diplomacy and senior representatives of Mongolian Airlines on a tour of the exhibit recently for a greater appreciation of the beauty which included 10 new varieties of chrysentemums never seen in Southeast Asia!

The exhibition was organised in collaboration with the Embassy of Mongolia in Singapore at the Flower Dome of the Gardens and was officially opened on 29th September 2023 by Ambassador Enkhbayar Sosorbaram with Guests of Honour: Minister in the Prime Minister Office, Second Minister of Education and Foreign Affairs, Dr Mohamad Maliki Osman and the CEO of Gardens by the Bay, Mr Felix Loh.

Life-sized
The floral display features Mongolian flora of diverse chrysanthemums interspersed with dianthus, asters, as well as Mongolia’s national flower, scabiosa. The blooms were planted by florists from Gardens by the Bay who had specifically traveled to Mongolia in June 2023 to prepare for the event. Other attractions of the exposition include an authentic life-sized Mongolian ger, as well as the collection of Mongolian national dresses and costumes. In addition, replicas of a herdsman walking his horse near Ulaan Tsutgalan (Red waterfall) waterfall, one of the most picturesque sights in Mongolia, as well as five types of livestock of Mongolian herdsmen were put on display.

The opening event featured performances by Mongolian folk artists and contortionists, while the guests were presented with tablets of their names written in Mongolian calligraphy. The event was co-sponsored by the Mongolian e-platform, TalentSnipe, and national air flag carrier, MIAT Mongolian Airlines.

Following the tour with the Mongolian Ambassador, it inspired IN Diplomacy in the creation of the cover story of its latest issue (no. 90 click here) of IN Diplomacy on how many embassies are creatively using iconic Singapore venues to introduce cultural aspects of the country to Singaporeans. We hope the Mongolian Airlines representatives that were with us (Mr Tengis Damdinkhorol and Mr Tenuun batbold) are also similarly inspired as we understand the national flag carrier of Mongolia is looking into the feasibility of flights between Singapore and Mongolia.

The “Chrysanthemum Charm” will be open to the public until 13 November 2023

Visitors’ Note: About 4.2 million tourists visit Gardens by the Bay each year (out of 14 million visitors coming to Singapore annually); there is a potential for the Mongolian floral display to attract about 500 thousand visitors.
