Invest in Jordan: Where Imagination Meets Opportunity Forum on 1st November 2023 was different as introduction to the country and infrastructural setup support was offered by Singapore tech company

THE Embassy of the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan, in collaboration with BIGO Technology and the Singapore Business Federation, and with the participation of the Minister of Investment, H.E. Ms. Kholoud Saqqaf, as well as the Former Minister of Digital Economy and Entrepreneurship, CEO of the Fifth Advisory Services, and the Chair of Nova and Enjiz for Technology Outsourcing, H.E. Mr. Mothanna Gharaibeh, who joined virtually through Zoom, co-organized the interestingly titled event “Invest in Jordan: Where Imagination Meets Opportunity Forum” on November 1st, 2023, at the SBF headquarters. This hybrid forum was promoted as a “unique opportunity” for companies contemplating expansion into Jordan.

It turned out the Forum more than matched the hype as companies looking to understand the Jordanian market received a unique invitation from Ms Marie Miller, BIGO Technology Pte Ltd’s Director, that it will give as much help as possible with – no strings attached – to any business owner to check out the Jordanian market. BIGO is one of the fastest-growing Singapore technology companies, with more than 30 offices and six R&D centres around the world with video-based products and services with users in more than 150 countries including Jordan.

The open invitation was backed by stats and testimonials from Jordan’s Ambassador to Singapore H.E. Samer Anton Naber and the picture is completed by Jordan’s Ministry of Investment about the investment landscape and opportunities in the country.

They highlighted one of the country’s biggest assets that Singapore companies will appreciate – the large pool of trained, skilled and highly-qualified manpower that is available at a competitive cost. Jordan topped the list for availability of highly-skilled workforce in the IMD World Talent Ranking 2022. For example, it has the highest number of engineers per capita as 22% of the graduates in Jordan are in STEM (science, technology, engineering and mathematics).

Its’ appeal as an investment destination is supplemented by the country’s strategic location that has 1.5 billion people within its consumer direct market radius with access to 51 countries with FTAs and a very stable banking sector in a country considered economically safe and politically stable.

The offer by Ms Miller is also very hard to resist as BIGO will assist Singapore startups interested in Jordan with free co-working space and use of facilities in BIGO office for up to six months; free business matchmaking and networking opportunities and if needed assistance in employment permits and setting up of local presence. Her message at the end of her presentation is come and see for yourself; it would be wonderful if you can do business in Jordan but if it does not suit your requirements you would have at least had the opportunity to visit one of the most hospitable and beautiful countries in the world (rated 9th in the world by UN World Tourism Organisation).
