The Annual ASEAN Gala Night has become a tradition here and is one of the social and diplomatic highlights for fellow members of the grouping to come together. They celebrated this year’s theme “Harmonius ASEAN in Diversity.” Indonesia is the host this year as Chair of ASEAN and is to be congratulated for achieving the atmosphere of camarderie and fellowship among the members as well as an impressive showcase for the countries’ art, food and culture
THE ASEAN Gala Night 2023 was not only attended by the representatives of all the ASEAN member countries but also invited were the representatives from the ASEAN Dialogue Partner countries such as Australia, Canada, China, European Union, India, Japan, New Zealand, Russia and the United States. The event celebrated the achievements of ASEAN in 2023 and H.E, Suryo Pratomo, the Indonesian Ambassador to Singapore, in his welcome speech highlighted how ASEAN unity is the most important element for the regional grouping in playing a central role in maintaining peace and stability in the region. Singapore’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs Permanent Secretary, Mr Albert Chua was the Guest of Honour.
There was also a symbolic handover for the ASEAN Chairmanship from Indonesia’s Ambassador H.E. Suryo Pratomo to the next Chair of ASEAN Lao PDR who was represented by its ambassador here H.E. Sengkeo Pouangpadith who received a traditional Indonesian Sumba Ikat weave cloth from Ambassador Pratomo.
More than 300 guests were treated to the best of ASEAN members’ iconic products, cuisines, art and live cultural performances and, most of all, the event was true to the night’s theme of showing the harmony in diversity among ASEAN.
