The Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore launches ‘Sea the Difference,’ a campaign celebrating the diverse career opportunities in the maritime industry, emphasizing digitalization and decarbonization.
The Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore (MPA) introduced its latest marketing initiative, ‘Sea the Difference,’ aimed at shedding light on the diverse range of career opportunities within the maritime sector. The campaign, unveiled today by Mr. Baey Yam Keng, Senior Parliamentary Secretary of the Ministry of Transport & Ministry of Sustainability and the Environment, serves to highlight the significance of maritime roles in global trade and Singapore’s position as a key transshipment hub.
The event, attended by approximately 150 industry partners, media representatives, and students from various Institutes of Higher Learning, featured Mr. Baey underscoring the exciting career paths available both at sea and ashore. He emphasized the ongoing transformation in the maritime industry, emphasizing the potential for skills transfer and career development, particularly for mid-career professionals.
Central to the campaign is a compelling short-film series titled ‘The Matchmaker,’ drawing inspiration from real-life maritime professionals who successfully transitioned from seafaring to onshore careers. The four-episode series explores the experiences of a young graduate, freelancer, mid-career switcher, and a mature worker as they navigate the misconceptions surrounding maritime careers.
In addition to ‘The Matchmaker,’ the campaign will incorporate social media engagement and content designed to dispel common myths about maritime professions. It will also spotlight lesser-known yet intriguing jobs like hydrographic surveyors and vessel traffic officers. Scheduled to run from November 2023 to February 2024, the campaign aims to provide a comprehensive view of the maritime industry and inspire prospective job seekers.
Mr. Teo Eng Dih, MPA Chief Executive, expressed, “The maritime industry is rapidly transforming, offering numerous career and professional development opportunities. Through this campaign, we hope to inspire students and job seekers by sharing real-life stories of individuals who found fulfillment in their maritime careers.”
Interested individuals can access the short films, along with information about maritime careers and available jobs, on the campaign’s official website, www.seathedifference.gov.sg.
