President Tharman Shanmugaratnam is on a working visit to the United States, spanning from 27 November to 4 December 2023. The visit is marked by various engagements, including a Distinguished Key Lecture and a dialogue session at Columbia University as part of its prestigious World Leaders Forum series.
Throughout his stay, President Tharman will meet with United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres, as well as leaders from the financial sector. Additionally, he is scheduled to connect with the Singaporean community based in the United States, fostering ties and addressing their concerns.
In his capacity, President Tharman will assume the role of chairing the United Nations Human Development Report Advisory Board and presiding over a Group of Thirty plenary hosted by the Federal Reserve Bank of New York. This underscores the importance of international cooperation and economic discussions during his visit.
Accompanying President Tharman are officials from the President’s Office, enhancing the collaborative nature of the visit. Notably, during the President’s absence, Mr Eddie Teo, Chairman of the Council of Presidential Advisers, will exercise the functions of the office of the President.
