Deputy Prime Minister Lawrence Wong announces the commencement of the 2024 CDC Vouchers Scheme, providing $500 worth of vouchers to every Singaporean household, as part of the government’s efforts to address the challenges posed by global inflation.

Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Finance Lawrence Wong officially launched the CDC Vouchers Scheme for the year 2024 on January 3, 2024. The scheme aims to mitigate the impact of rising inflation on Singaporean households. The event brought together mayors, parliamentary colleagues, CDC district councillors, the President of the Federation of Merchants’ Associations Singapore, Chairman of the Heartland Enterprise Centre Singapore, and various community and corporate partners.

In his speech, DPM Lawrence Wong highlighted the success of the CDC Vouchers Scheme initiated in 2021 to support heartland merchants and hawkers affected by the COVID-19 pandemic. He announced that starting from the launch day, every Singaporean household is eligible to claim $500 worth of CDC Vouchers.

The vouchers, split into two equal parts, with $250 designated for use at heartland shops and hawkers and the remaining $250 for supermarkets, can be claimed online at go.gov.sg/cdcv. For those facing difficulties with online claims, assistance is available at Community Centres.

DPM Lawrence Wong expressed gratitude to the various stakeholders, including mayors, district councillors, participating merchants, hawkers, and supermarket operators, for their contributions to the success of the CDC Vouchers Scheme. He also encouraged Singaporeans to use the vouchers responsibly and urged those who could not fully utilize them to donate to charities through the CDC Vouchers website.

The CDC Vouchers Scheme is part of the government’s comprehensive package to cushion the effects of inflation. The announcement comes after the distribution of up to $800 in cash to adult Singaporeans through the Assurance Package in the previous month. Further assistance, including cash payouts for eligible seniors and MediSave top-ups, is scheduled for the upcoming month.

Reflecting on the challenges of 2023, DPM Lawrence Wong acknowledged the global geopolitical tensions and the impact of conflicts on the economy. While expressing cautious optimism for 2024, he emphasized the government’s commitment to closely monitoring external factors and considering additional measures to support Singaporeans in the upcoming Budget 2024.

In conclusion, DPM Lawrence Wong expressed confidence in Singapore’s ability to overcome challenges, citing the nation’s strong sense of social solidarity and unity. He urged citizens to adapt and thrive in the face of uncertainty, promising a better future for Singapore in 2024.
