Minister for Foreign Affairs Dr Vivian Balakrishnan’s diplomatic journey aims to strengthen ties and explore new avenues for cooperation during his official visits to Portugal and Denmark from 3 to 9 January 2024.

Singapore’s Minister for Foreign Affairs, Dr Vivian Balakrishnan, is on an official visit to Portugal and Denmark from 3 to 9 January 2024. The visit to Portugal, spanning from 3 to 6 January, will focus on enhancing the robust cultural connections between Singapore and Portugal. Minister Balakrishnan aims to foster deeper collaboration in key emerging areas such as sustainable development, climate change, and biotechnology.

In Lisbon, Minister Balakrishnan is slated to deliver the keynote address at the annual Diplomatic Seminar of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Portugal on 4 January. This visit will also include a joint press conference with Portuguese Minister of Foreign Affairs João Gomes Cravinho, meetings with the Mayor of Lisbon Carlos Moedas, and discussions with prominent Portuguese business leaders.

Transitioning to Denmark from 6 to 9 January, Minister Balakrishnan’s visit underscores the strong economic, maritime, and people-to-people relations between Singapore and Denmark. In Copenhagen, he is set to meet with Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Defence Troels Lund Poulsen, Danish Foreign Minister Lars Løkke Rasmussen, Minister for Climate, Energy and Utilities Lars Aagaard, Minister for Digitalisation Marie Bjerre, along with engagements with senior Danish business leaders.

As part of his itinerary, Minister Balakrishnan will actively engage with the Singaporean communities in both Portugal and Denmark. Accompanying him on this diplomatic mission are officials from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
