Remarks by Deputy Prime Minister and Coordinating Minister for Economic Policies Heng Swee Keat at the SingHealth-SUTD Collaboration Agreement Signing Ceremony on 16 January 2024.

Deputy Prime Minister and Coordinating Minister for Economic Policies, Heng Swee Keat, delivered remarks at the SingHealth-SUTD Collaboration Agreement Signing Ceremony on January 16, 2024. The ceremony, attended by notable figures including Mr Cheng Wai Keung, Chairman of SingHealth, and Mr Lee Tzu Yang, Chairman of Singapore University of Technology and Design (SUTD), marked an expansion of their collaboration to tackle critical issues related to an ageing population.

Singapore, facing the challenges of becoming a “super-aged” society, is witnessing a rapid increase in its ageing population. DPM Heng Swee Keat highlighted the social and economic implications of this demographic shift. To address these challenges, SingHealth and SUTD are extending their partnership, with a focus on integrating health and social care interventions with urban planning and architectural design in the East.

The collaboration aims to create positive outcomes for today’s seniors and future generations. Initiatives like the Pelatok Art Farm, established in partnership with Changi General Hospital, serve as examples of successful community projects that enhance well-being and strengthen community bonds. DPM Heng emphasized the importance of a citizen-centric approach, leveraging partnerships and diverse expertise to develop holistic solutions.

The Collaboration Agreement is set to build on SingHealth’s medical and clinical expertise and SUTD’s strengths in technology, design, and architecture. By combining these strengths, the collaboration aims to accelerate the journey towards a healthier Singapore and foster innovations with global relevance.
