Senior Minister of State (SMS) for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Ministry of National Development, Sim Ann, undertook a significant visit to Beijing, China, from 28 to 29 January 2024. During her stay, SMS Sim Ann, accompanied by officials from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, engaged in key diplomatic discussions to bolster relations between Singapore and the People’s Republic of China.
SMS Sim Ann held constructive meetings with Minister of the International Department of the Communist Party of China (CPCID), Liu Jianchao, and Vice Minister of Foreign Affairs, Sun Weidong. These high-level discussions served to reaffirm the positive strides achieved in bilateral cooperation since the 19th Joint Council for Bilateral Cooperation (JCBC) meeting in December 2023. The leaders explored avenues to further deepen collaboration, particularly in crucial areas like human resource development and people-to-people exchanges.
The visit also provided an opportunity for both parties to exchange views on significant regional and international developments. The discussions touched upon key issues shaping the global landscape, fostering a deeper understanding between Singapore and China.
