Doreen Bogdan-Martin, Secretary-General of the International Telecommunication Union, visits Singapore to enhance ITU’s collaboration with the city-state, engaging with top officials and participating in key events.

International Telecommunication Union (ITU) Secretary-General Doreen Bogdan-Martin visited Singapore on 5 and 6 February 2024, as part of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs’ Distinguished Visitors’ Programme (DVP). The DVP, which began in 2005, is designed to foster dialogue and exchange of ideas between Singapore and influential global figures on mutual concerns and interests. The visit of Secretary-General Bogdan-Martin marks a significant moment, underscoring the strong partnership between the ITU and Singapore.

During her stay, Secretary-General Bogdan-Martin’s agenda was packed with high-level engagements. She met with Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Finance, Lawrence Wong, highlighting the importance of the visit in strengthening bilateral relations and cooperation in telecommunication and ICT sectors. The Secretary-General also participated in meals hosted by Josephine Teo, Minister for Communications and Information, and Sim Ann, Senior Minister of State for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Ministry of National Development, further cementing the collaborative spirit between ITU and Singapore.

A key highlight of her visit was her involvement in briefings by the Infocomm Media Development Authority (IMDA) and the Office for Space Technology & Industry. These interactions provided platforms for discussing advancements in telecommunications and space technology, areas in which Singapore is keen to advance its capabilities and collaboration with international bodies like the ITU.

Additionally, Bogdan-Martin took an active role at the Asia Tech x Inspire event organized by IMDA, where she shared insights on the future of telecommunications and the role of international cooperation in fostering innovation and development in the sector.

This visit not only signifies the deepening relationship between the ITU and Singapore but also sets the stage for future collaborations in enhancing global telecommunications infrastructure and technologies. It highlights Singapore’s strategic role in the international telecommunication landscape and its commitment to fostering global partnerships for technological advancement.
