Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong will visit Melbourne, Australia from 4 to 6 March 2024 to attend the 9th Singapore-Australia Annual Leaders’ Meeting and the ASEAN-Australia Special Summit.
Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong of Singapore will embark on a visit to Melbourne, Australia, from the 4th to the 6th of March 2024. This trip is scheduled for him to participate in the 9th Singapore-Australia Annual Leaders’ Meeting and the ASEAN-Australia Special Summit. These meetings are instrumental in fostering bilateral relations between Singapore and Australia, as well as enhancing regional cooperation within the Asia-Pacific region.
The Singapore-Australia Annual Leaders’ Meeting, a cornerstone event under the Singapore-Australia Comprehensive Strategic Partnership, provides a forum for both nations’ Prime Ministers to discuss and promote bilateral cooperation across various sectors. Prime Minister Lee is set to meet his Australian counterpart, Prime Minister Anthony Albanese, to conduct the 9th iteration of this meeting. A Joint Press Conference will conclude their discussions, marking a continued commitment to strengthening ties and collaboration.
In addition to the bilateral talks, Prime Minister Lee will attend the ASEAN-Australia Special Summit, a significant event commemorating 50 years of dialogue relations between ASEAN countries and Australia, ASEAN’s oldest Dialogue Partner. The summit aims to reinforce the long-standing and substantial relationship between the two sides, focusing on deepening cooperation in green and digital economies, and addressing regional and global issues of mutual interest. This initiative underscores the commitment to building an open, inclusive, and stable region.
Accompanying Prime Minister Lee on this trip will be Dr Vivian Balakrishnan, Minister for Foreign Affairs, along with officials from the Prime Minister’s Office and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. During his absence, Deputy Prime Minister Lawrence Wong will serve as Acting Prime Minister from 4 to 6 March 2024, ensuring the seamless continuation of governance.
