Minister Maliki Osman witnesses the transfer of S$2 million donation from Rahmatan Lil Alamin Foundation and announces USD 100,000 worth of humanitarian goods from Singapore Red Cross to aid civilians in Gaza.

In a significant move towards addressing the escalating humanitarian crisis in Gaza, Minister in the Prime Minister’s Office, Second Minister for Education, and Second Minister for Foreign Affairs, Dr Mohamad Maliki Osman, presided over the handover of public donations in Cairo, Egypt. The event included the presentation of S$2 million by the Rahmatan Lil Alamin Foundation (RLAF) to the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA) on 10 November 2023. Additionally, Minister Maliki announced the second tranche of humanitarian goods, valued at US$100,000, from the Singapore Red Cross (SRC) to the Egyptian Red Crescent (ERC).

The humanitarian goods dispatched by the Singapore Red Cross encompass vital provisions such as medical supplies, food, drinking water, and hygiene kits, addressing the urgent needs of the civilian population in Gaza. This delivery marks the second tranche, building upon the initial USD 200,000 support provided to the ERC relief pipeline.

Expressing his sentiments on the occasion, Minister Maliki stated, “I am honored to have witnessed the handover of humanitarian assistance from RLAF and the Singapore Red Cross to UNRWA and the Egyptian Red Crescent. The deepening humanitarian crisis in Gaza is a tragedy, and there is an urgent need for humanitarian assistance to be extended to the civilians in Gaza. I am proud that Singaporeans have stepped up generously to support these needs.”

As part of the visit, Minister Maliki received detailed briefings from the Egyptian Red Crescent and UNRWA on the current situation at the Rafah crossing and the prevailing humanitarian conditions in Gaza. During meetings with Egyptian leaders, Minister Maliki affirmed Singapore’s commitment to supporting the humanitarian relief efforts by the Egyptian government, the United Nations, and other partners to alleviate the dire situation in Gaza. The Singapore Red Cross will further collaborate with the Egyptian Red Crescent to address the ongoing needs of affected communities.
