The Government of Mexico has reaffirmed its commitment to enhancing integration, development, and security along its shared border with Guatemala. On 23-24 January 2025, Undersecretary for Latin America and the Caribbean, Raquel Serur, visited the southern border to assess the progress of priority projects aimed at creating a secure and modern border with efficient migration management and shared prosperity.

During her visit, Undersecretary Serur met with Mexican, Guatemalan, and international organization representatives to discuss human mobility and Mexico’s Humanitarian Model of Human Mobility. She also toured the Dr. Rodolfo Robles and Luis Cabrera international bridges, located in the Ciudad Hidalgo and Tecún Umán area, to evaluate infrastructure developments.

In addition to the infrastructure focus, the visit underscored the growing collaboration between Mexico and Guatemala in the areas of social welfare and migration management. Both nations continue to work together on regional development programmes that aim to improve the living conditions of border communities, reduce poverty, and create sustainable economic opportunities for citizens on both sides of the border.

The Mexican Government’s commitment to advancing integration, development, and security along the shared border with Guatemala aligns with the guidelines established by President Andrés Manuel López Obrador, who has emphasized that this border is a place of mutual exchanges and opportunity for all.
