
Commemorative Events Mark Six Decades of Thailand-Singapore Relations, Discussed by Ms. Nomita Dhar and H.E. Ureerat Chareontoh.
Singapore, 21 January 2025 – In a warm and cordial meeting, Ms. Nomita Dhar, Editor-in-Chief of IN Diplomacy, met with the Thailand Ambassador H.E. Ureerat Chareontoh. The discussion was focused on Thailand and Singapore’s 60 Years of Diplomatic Ties, while also discussing the Royal Thai Embassy’s Calendar of Activities in 2025.
The Royal Thai Embassy in Singapore has unveiled a series of events in 2025 to commemorate the 60th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Thailand and Singapore. The year-long celebrations will feature cultural showcases, economic discussions, and high-level diplomatic engagements, reinforcing the strong partnership between the two nations.
The festivities commenced on 24 January with the launch of the commemorative logo at the Royal Thai Embassy, which set the tone for a year of reflection and collaboration. On 13 February, a reception titled ‘Celebrating 60 Years of Thailand and Singapore Shared Journeys’ will bring together dignitaries and officials at the Royal Thai Embassy. The following day, 14 February, will witness the unveiling of Orchids from the Land of Smiles at Cloud Forest, Gardens by the Bay, highlighting Thailand’s floral heritage.
Key diplomatic and economic engagements include the 7th Singapore-Thailand Enhanced Economic Relationship (STEER) Ministerial Meeting on 14 March and the 15th Civil Service Exchange Programme on 24-25 June in Singapore. On 30 March, the embassy will host a Songkran Festival, celebrating Thailand’s traditional New Year with cultural performances and festivities.
The Thai Festival, a major cultural event showcasing Thailand’s cuisine, arts, and traditions, is scheduled for 30 May to 1 June. August will see an academic discourse with a seminar titled “Thailand and Singapore @60: Echoing the Past, Envisioning the Future” on 26 August at the Royal Thai Embassy.
In September, an Exhibition and Reception will highlight the milestones in the two nations’ relations over six decades. Additional activities, with dates yet to be confirmed, include the Thai Film Festival, and official visits by the Prime Minister of Thailand to Singapore and the President of Singapore to Thailand.
