The Philippine Embassy in Singapore is participating in the 2024 National Women’s Month Celebration which has the theme “WE for gender equality and inclusive society”
THE women and men of the Philippine Embassy in Singapore are actively participating in the observance of the 2024 National Women’s Month (NWM), which takes place from 1st to 31st March 2024. This annual celebration, established in 1988 by former President Corazon C. Aquino through Proclamation No. 227, recognizes the significant contributions of Filipino women to nation-building across various spheres that include politics, economics, and socio-culture.
The 36th NWM Celebration aims to promote the theme “WE for gender equality and inclusive society”, aligned with the Philippine Development Plan from 2023 to 2028. This year’s theme serves as both a positive affirmation and a call to action, highlighting the need for accelerated efforts toward achieving full gender parity. The Philippines ranks among the top countries in Asia in narrowing the gender gap, according to the 2023 Global Gender Gap Index Report of the World Economic Forum (WEF), with a global ranking of 16th out of 146 countries.
The Philippine government, while celebrating its achievements in gender equality, acknowledges the need for more intensive efforts. The 2024 NWM sub-theme “Lipunang Patas sa Bagong Pilipinas: Kakayahan ng Kababaihan, Patutunayan!” aims to showcase the full potentials of women and girls and includes programmes, activities, and projects to mainstream gender and development, involve men in the cause for gender equality, and establish supportive legal frameworks.
As part of the month-long celebration, the Philippine Embassy in Singapore is dedicating its special Sunday operations on 17th March 2024 to women kababayans (fellow Filipino) reaffirming its commitment to gender and development programmes such as Post-Arrival Orientation Seminars (PAOS), assistance-to-nationals (ATN) services, and upskilling opportunities.
