Deputy Prime Minister Lawrence Wong officially opened the new campus and global headquarters of Surbana Jurong on 13 March 2024, highlighting its contributions to Singapore and the global urban and infrastructural development sector.

On 13 March 2024, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Finance, Lawrence Wong, presided over the opening ceremony of the Surbana Jurong Campus, marking a significant milestone for the organization known for its pivotal role in Singapore’s development and its global reach in urban and infrastructure consultancy. The event was attended by the Chairman and CEO of the Surbana Jurong Group, parliamentary colleagues, dignitaries, and esteemed guests.

In his remarks, Wong recounted the history of Surbana Jurong, from its origins as the technical arms of Singapore’s Housing Development Board (HDB) and the Jurong Town Corporation (JTC), to its evolution into a major international consultancy firm with projects in over 40 countries. He emphasized the organization’s integral contributions to Singapore, especially its rapid response during the pandemic, helping to manage the surge of infections through the creation of community care facilities.

Highlighting the future, Wong spoke on Singapore’s need to maintain its innovative edge in the increasingly competitive global environment. He pointed out the strategic importance of urban solutions, where Singapore has developed strengths out of necessity, such as in public housing, water management, and land use.

The Deputy Prime Minister underlined the government’s commitment to fostering innovation through research and development, particularly in sustainable and liveable city solutions. He cited collaborations in the Built Environment Technology Alliance and research into low-carbon concrete as examples of efforts to reduce environmental impact.

Wong concluded with a vision for Singapore’s ongoing development, emphasizing collaboration, innovation, and sustainability. He expressed confidence in Surbana Jurong’s continued role in shaping Singapore’s urban landscape and the collective journey towards a more fulfilling, sustainable, and beautiful city.
