Singapore’s Minister for Social and Family Development to discuss regional socio-cultural priorities in Luang Prabang and engage Laotian counterparts in Vientiane.
Minister Masagos Zulkifli, holding portfolios in Social and Family Development, Health, and Muslim Affairs, will be in Lao PDR from 23 to 26 March 2024. His visit includes attending the 31st ASEAN Socio-Cultural Community (ASCC) Council Meeting in Luang Prabang from 23 to 25 March, followed by official meetings in Vientiane from 25 to 26 March.
The ASCC Council Meeting, set under this year’s theme “ASEAN: Enhancing Connectivity and Resilience” led by Lao PDR’s ASEAN Chairmanship, aims to chart a strategic direction for socio-cultural development in the region. Discussions will focus on a range of crucial issues, including the promotion of inclusive and sustainable culture and the arts, environmental cooperation, the pivotal role of women and children, and advancing health development across ASEAN nations.
During his visit to Vientiane, Minister Masagos is scheduled to meet with key Laotian officials, including Mdm Baykham Khattiya, Minister of Labour and Social Welfare, and Mdm Aly Vongnorbountham, President of the Lao Women Union. These engagements aim to strengthen bilateral relations between Singapore and Laos, especially in socio-cultural and developmental sectors.
This visit underscores Singapore’s commitment to fostering robust socio-cultural ties and cooperation within the ASEAN community, emphasizing the importance of resilience and connectivity in the face of global challenges.
