Minister Liu Jianchao’s visit underlines the strong ties between China and Singapore, with commitments to deepen cooperation.
On 26 March 2024, Minister of the International Department of the Communist Party of China, Liu Jianchao, embarked on an official visit to Singapore, meeting with Deputy Prime Ministers Lawrence Wong and Heng Swee Keat. This visit underscored the robust and friendly relations between Singapore and the People’s Republic of China, highlighting both nations’ anticipation for enhanced bilateral cooperation.
During discussions with Deputy Prime Minister Wong, Minister Liu celebrated the 30th anniversary of the Suzhou Industrial Park (SIP), a cornerstone of the Singapore-China partnership. Both officials expressed optimism for the SIP’s future and the upcoming 20th Joint Council for Bilateral Cooperation (JCBC) meeting in Singapore. They also emphasized the value of people-to-people exchanges and the importance of an open, rules-based multilateral trading system and healthy ASEAN-China relations.
Conversing with Deputy Prime Minister Heng, Minister Liu noted the dynamic progress in bilateral cooperation, pledging continued collaboration across various sectors. Both leaders acknowledged the benefits of learning from each other’s experiences to better serve their citizens and agreed on the importance of working with regional and international partners on global issues like climate change.
Minister for Foreign Affairs Dr. Vivian Balakrishnan is set to host Minister Liu for dinner, further cementing the strong diplomatic ties between the two countries.
