Senior Minister Teo Chee Hean visited Germany for diplomatic meetings and to officiate the launch of a new submarine, strengthening Singapore-Germany ties.
Senior Minister and Coordinating Minister for National Security, Teo Chee Hean, conducted a strategic visit to Germany from April 21 to April 24, 2024. This visit included stops in Kiel and Berlin, where he engaged with top German officials to bolster bilateral relations.
In Kiel (April 21-22): Minister Teo officiated the launch of the Republic of Singapore Navy’s fourth Invincible-class submarine, named the Inimitable. The ceremony was attended by German Federal Minister for Defence Boris Pistorius and Senior Minister of State for Defence Heng Chee How. Following the launch, Minister Teo and Minister Pistorius held a bilateral meeting, reaffirming the strong and substantive defence ties between Singapore and Germany.
In Berlin (April 22-24): The Senior Minister’s itinerary continued in Berlin, where he met with German Federal Minister for Special Affairs and Head of the Federal Chancellery Wolfgang Schmidt. Their discussions covered the robust and multifaceted relationship between the two countries, focusing on international and regional developments. Additionally, Minister Teo held talks with senior German security officials to further discuss security issues.
This visit underscores the continued commitment of Singapore and Germany to deepen their strategic partnership and collaboration across various sectors, particularly in defense and security.
