Prince William’s Working Visit to Singapore for Earthshot Prize Awards Ceremony

His Royal Highness (H.R.H.) Prince William, The Prince of Wales, undertook a working visit to Singapore from 5 to 8 November 2023 to participate in the Earthshot Prize Awards Ceremony and associated events.

On 5 November, H.R.H. Prince William, accompanied by Senior Minister of State, Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Ministry of National Development, Sim Ann, toured the Rain Vortex and Forest Valley at Jewel Changi Airport, where a Tembusu tree was planted in his honor.

On 6 November, H.R.H. Prince William paid a courtesy call on President Tharman Shanmugaratnam. Discussions centered around the implications of climate change and the innovative solutions offered by Earthshot Prize finalists and awardees. H.R.H. Prince William also met with Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong, emphasizing the enduring and strong ties between Singapore and the United Kingdom.

On 7 November, H.R.H. Prince William attended the Earthshot Prize Awards Ceremony, where he was welcomed by Minister for Foreign Affairs Dr Vivian Balakrishnan, who delivered the opening address on behalf of the Singapore Government. Minister for Sustainability and the Environment Grace Fu was also present at the event.

On 8 November, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Finance Lawrence Wong accompanied H.R.H. Prince William on a hike to the TreeTop Walk at MacRitchie Reservoir. During the hike, they interacted with representatives from NParks and NParks’ Youth Stewards for Nature program, along with the 2022 Earthshot Prize finalist Ms. Isabelle Lackman.

H.R.H. Prince William is scheduled to depart Singapore later tonight.
