The High Commissioner of Sri Lanka met with key officials from Singapore’s Ministry of Trade and Industry, as well as Enterprise Singapore to strengthen trade relations and cooperation.

On 29th April 2024, H.E. Senarath Dissanayake engaged in discussions with Ms. Magdalene Loh, Director of the Emerging Market Division of the Ministry of Trade and Industry (MTI) of Singapore, and Mr. Jayakrishnan Gopalakirshnan, Executive Director of Enterprise Singapore.

During the meeting, the High Commissioner emphasised the importance of enhancing collaboration in trade and investment between Sri Lanka and Singapore. He requested assistance from MTI and Enterprise Singapore in encouraging Singapore Chambers and Product Associations to organise trade delegations for upcoming exhibitions in Sri Lanka, aiming to strengthen bilateral trade relations and foster greater economic cooperation.

Responding to the High Commissioner’s initiatives, the Director of MTI expressed willingness to assist in operationalizing the Sri Lanka-Singapore Free Trade Agreement (SLSFTA). The High Commissioner sought MTI’s support in establishing the Joint Commission (JC) under the SLSFTA to facilitate its implementation. The Director requested Sri Lankan authorities to nominate officials for the JC.

Executive Director of Enterprise Singapore affirmed support for encouraging Singaporean companies to participate in Sri Lankan exhibitions and providing assistance through the market entry support program. The High Commission is coordinating with Singaporean trade chambers and product associations to arrange trade delegations for upcoming exhibitions in Sri Lanka.

Accompanying the High Commissioner were Minister (Commercial) of the High Commission Mr. Yasantha Yaddehi, Senior Assistant Director of MTI Mr. Vann Ang, and Development Partner of Enterprise Singapore Mr. Daniel Hakim, indicating the significance of the discussions.
