The ninth edition of the World Cities Summit, held from June 2-4, 2024 in Singapore, aims to enhance urban liveability and sustainability by convening leaders and experts from around the globe.
The World Cities Summit (WCS) 2024 is set to take place from June 2 to June 4 at the Suntec Singapore Convention and Exhibition Centre. This biennial event, hosted in Singapore, reaches its ninth edition this year, continuing its tradition of gathering global government leaders, industry pioneers, and academic experts. The summit focuses on critical urban issues that affect cities worldwide, promoting discussions aimed at improving city liveability and quality of life.
Organized jointly by the Centre for Liveable Cities (CLC) and the Urban Redevelopment Authority (URA) of Singapore, the WCS has attracted participation from over 250 cities since its inception in 2008. The previous 2022 summit saw more than 2,500 delegates, including 72 ministers, mayors, and city leaders from 56 countries and regions.
The 2024 theme, “Liveable and Sustainable Cities: Rejuvenate, Reinvent, Reimagine,” highlights the necessity for cities to adapt and transform to meet the demands of climatic, financial, and societal challenges. Hugh Lim, the Executive Director of CLC, emphasized the summit’s role in fostering discussions that address today’s urban challenges and in shaping the future of sustainable and resilient cities through innovative solutions.
WCS 2024 will feature a variety of activities including thematic tracks such as Cities for People, Resilient & Regenerative Cities, Smart Cities, Sustainable Financing of Cities, and Future Cities. Notable events include the WCS Mayors Forum, the Young Leaders Symposium, the Lee Kuan Yew World Prize Award Ceremony, and an exhibition with booths representing cities and corporations worldwide.
Distinguished attendees this year include Heng Swee Keat, Deputy Prime Minister of Singapore, multiple global mayors such as His Excellency Eng. Ahmed Bin Mohammed Al Humaidi from Muscat and Carlos Fernando Galan Pachon from Bogota, as well as other influential figures in urban development and planning.
