Tourism Malaysia Singapore concludes a successful familiarisation trip, introducing Singapore’s media and key opinion leaders to the unique tourism offerings of Penang and Langkawi, promoting the concept of dual-city holidays in Malaysia.
SINGAPORE, 13 May 2024 – From 6 to 11 May 2024, Tourism Malaysia Singapore wrapped up its Malaysia Familiarisation Programme, hosting Singaporean media representatives and key opinion leaders (KOLs) for an immersive exploration of Penang and Langkawi, highlighting the allure of dual-city holidays within Malaysia.
The programme offered participants from esteemed magazines, newspapers, and online platforms a firsthand experience of Malaysia’s diverse tourism offerings. Luxurious accommodations at The George Penang set the stage for the journey, followed by excursions to the breathtaking Kubang Badak Biogeotrail and the enchanting Dream Forest Langkawi. Emphasizing Malaysia’s unique appeal, the initiative aimed to bolster its positive image among Singaporean travellers.
Cultural immersion was a key focus, with activities such as batik painting at Atma Alam Batik Art Village in Langkawi and visits to iconic attractions like The Habitat Penang Hill and ESCAPE Penang. By showcasing Malaysian hospitality and culture, participants gained insight into the unforgettable experiences awaiting visitors.
The success of the familiarisation trip was made possible through collaborations with AirAsia, Penang Global Tourism, Langkawi Development Authority (LADA), Tropical Charters Sunset Cruise, Pelangi Beach Resort and Spa, and Dream Forest Langkawi. AirAsia’s extensive airline network facilitated seamless travel to both destinations, with 10 weekly departures to Langkawi and 30 weekly departures to Penang.
Mr. Manoharan Periasamy, Director General of Tourism Malaysia, expressed optimism about the programme’s impact on boosting arrivals and promoting Malaysia as a preferred tourist destination for Singaporean travellers, especially in preparation for Visit Malaysia 2026.
Ms. Mohana Murni Shanmugam, Deputy Director of Tourism Malaysia Singapore, anticipates that the familiarisation trip will surpass the target of 10 million Singaporean tourists by the end of the year, with positive exposure through media and KOL channels enticing more Singaporeans to explore Malaysia’s diverse attractions.
