The EU Delegation to Singapore celebrated Europe Day 2024 with a grand reception, marking significant milestones and partnerships.

The EU Delegation to Singapore celebrated Europe Day on 10 May 2024, hosting a reception at the Conrad Centennial Hotel. The event was graced by Singapore’s Minister for Transport and Second Minister for Finance, Chee Hong Tat, as the guest of honour. Over 300 guests, including nearly 40 Ambassadors and High Commissioners, attended the celebration.

The event opened with a screening of the trailer for the 33rd European Film Festival (EUFF) in Singapore, which, for the first time, will run as a month-long festival featuring 24 films from 24 European countries.

EU Ambassador to Singapore, H.E. Iwona Piórko, delivered a speech reflecting on recent achievements and the EU-Singapore partnership. She highlighted the significance of the 20th anniversary of the EU Delegation’s establishment in Singapore.

A Singaporean student supported by NGO United Women Singapore performed the Singaporean national anthem, “Majulah Singapura,” followed by the European anthem, “Ode to Joy,” performed by a choir from the German European School Singapore (GESS).

The event also commemorated the 20th anniversary of the 2004 EU enlargement, during which ten new countries joined the EU. To mark this milestone, a dancer performed folk dances from five EU Member States—Czech Republic, Estonia, Hungary, Lithuania, and Poland—that have missions in Singapore.
