DR. Abdullah bin Sharaf Al-Ghamdi, President of the Saudi Data and Artificial Intelligence Authority (SDAIA), emphasized Saudi Arabia’s global leadership in promoting responsible innovation in advanced technologies. He spoke at the G2G Ministerial Meeting during the ATxSummit, organized by the Infocomm Media Development Authority (IMDA) from 30th to 31st May 2024. The summit’s theme was “Redefining Technology for a Better Future,” and Dr. Al-Ghamdi highlighted the Kingdom’s efforts to balance technological benefits with societal values and security.
Addressing an audience of ministers of communications, technology, AI, and global experts, Dr. Al-Ghamdi discussed SDAIA’s initiatives in monitoring and leveraging technological impacts. He pointed out the data and privacy legislative environment initiative, which supports small and medium enterprises (SMEs), startups, and entrepreneurs by providing a platform for experimentation and growth while ensuring data privacy.
Dr. Al-Ghamdi described this initiative as a model for responsible technical development, offering guidance, organizational flexibility, and a collaborative testing environment. This framework allows industry stakeholders to develop ground-breaking technologies while prioritizing ethical considerations and user safety.
In his concluding remarks, Dr. Al-Ghamdi invited attendees to the third annual Global AI Summit, scheduled for September in Riyadh, highlighting it as an opportunity to share best practices and collaborate on combating digital threats.
