The Singapore Armed Forces (SAF) celebrated SAF Day with a parade at SAFTI Military Institute, officiated by President Tharman Shanmugaratnam.

The Singapore Armed Forces (SAF) commemorated SAF Day at a parade held at SAFTI Military Institute (SAFTI MI) this evening. Due to inclement weather, the event was moved indoors. More than 2,000 SAF Operationally Ready National Servicemen (NSmen), Full-time National Servicemen, and Regulars attended the parade.

This year’s parade marks 40 years of Total Defence and was the first time President Tharman Shanmugaratnam presided over the event. Chief of Defence Force Vice Admiral Aaron Beng led SAF personnel in reciting the SAF pledge, reaffirming their loyalty to Singapore and their commitment to its defence.

During the parade, President Tharman presented the State Colours to the Singapore Army’s 1st Commando Battalion, which was named Best Combat Unit. Minister for Defence Dr. Ng Eng Hen presented Best Unit awards to 18 active units and 12 National Service units for their exceptional achievements in their respective formations. Dr. Ng also awarded 19 NSman of the Year accolades at the post-parade reception, recognising the outstanding contributions of NSmen.

The event was also streamed live on the Ministry of Defence’s social media channels, allowing other SAF personnel and members of the public to participate.

Senior Ministers of State for Defence Mr. Heng Chee How and Mr. Zaqy Mohamad, along with the Chiefs of the Army, Navy, Air Force, and Digital and Intelligence Service, were present, along with other senior officials from MINDEF and the SAF.
