General Agus Subiyanto, Commander-in-Chief of the Indonesian National Defence Forces, received the Meritorious Service Medal (Military) in recognition of his significant contributions to strengthening defence ties between Indonesia and Singapore.
General (GEN) Agus Subiyanto, Commander-in-Chief of the Indonesian National Defence Forces (TNI), was honored with Singapore’s prestigious Pingat Jasa Gemilang (Tentera) or Meritorious Service Medal (Military) [MSM(M)] by President Tharman Shanmugaratnam. The award ceremony took place at the Ministry of Defence (MINDEF) today, with Minister for Defence Dr. Ng Eng Hen presenting the medal.
GEN Subiyanto was recognized for his outstanding contributions to the enhancement of defence ties and cooperation between TNI and the Singapore Armed Forces (SAF) during his tenure as Chief of Staff of the Indonesian Army (KASAD). Under his leadership, both armed forces expanded their professional interactions and deepened people-to-people ties through regular high-level visits, cross-attendance of courses, professional exchanges, and bilateral and multilateral exercises such as Exercise Safkar Indopura, Exercise Chandrapura, and Exercise Super Garuda Shield. Notably, Exercise Safkar Indopura was elevated to a combined arms exercise for the first time in October 2023 during GEN Subiyanto’s tenure.
GEN Subiyanto is in Singapore for his introductory visit from 11 to 12 July. His visit included a call on Dr. Ng Eng Hen and Chief of Defence Force Vice Admiral (VADM) Aaron Beng after inspecting the Guard of Honour at MINDEF this morning. In the afternoon, GEN Subiyanto met with Prime Minister and Minister for Finance Lawrence Wong at the Istana. During their meeting, PM Wong and GEN Subiyanto reaffirmed the close and long-standing bilateral relationship between Singapore and Indonesia.
As part of his visit, GEN Subiyanto co-chaired the 25th Combined Annual Report Meeting – Indonesia-Singapore High Level Committee (CARM-INDOSIN HLC) with VADM Beng. The meeting focused on discussing ways to further deepen the robust relations between SAF and TNI. Initiated during the 15th Combined Annual Report Meeting (CARM) in 2012 held in Singapore, CARM-INDOSIN HLC oversees bilateral meetings between the two armed forces, covering areas such as intelligence, operations and exercises, personnel, and logistics.
GEN Subiyanto’s visit and the award highlight the continued commitment of both nations to fostering strong defence cooperation and mutual understanding, enhancing interoperability and the professional development of their military personnel.
