Sri Lanka’s High Commissioner and LKYSPP representatives discuss potential partnerships to enhance public policy and academic exchange between the two nations.
SINGAPORE, 8 August 2024 – The High Commissioner of Sri Lanka to Singapore, H.E. Senarath Dissanayake, recently engaged in a constructive dialogue with representatives from the Lee Kuan Yew School of Public Policy (LKYSPP) to explore potential collaborations aimed at fostering academic and policy-oriented partnerships. The meeting, held at the Sri Lankan High Commission in Singapore, focused on strengthening ties between Sri Lankan universities, government sector organizations, and LKYSPP.
During the discussions, High Commissioner Dissanayake highlighted the importance of continuing and expanding collaboration with LKYSPP, particularly in relation to scholarship opportunities for Sri Lankan public officials. He emphasized the value of these scholarships for officials seeking to advance their careers in academia and public policy. The High Commissioner’s remarks underscored the role of education and training in enhancing the capabilities of public officers and contributing to national development.
In response, LKYSPP representatives, including Ms. Celeste Ho, Deputy Director of Academic Affairs, and Ms. Norlela Binte Mohamed, Assistant Senior Manager of Academic Affairs, expressed the school’s willingness to support Sri Lankan candidates. They offered merit-based scholarships through a competitive selection process for high-performing public officers who wish to pursue an advanced degree in public policy. Both parties acknowledged the potential of these initiatives to further academic and policy collaborations between Sri Lanka and Singapore, enhancing bilateral relations in the process.
The meeting was also attended by Ms. Nanduni Govinnage, Minister Counsellor of the High Commission, who contributed to the discussion on the benefits of strengthening educational and policy exchanges between the two countries.
