This year’s Yellow Ribbon Prison Run saw a record 11,000 participants and raised over $550,000 for inmate rehabilitation
Singapore, September 3rd, 2024 — The Yellow Ribbon Prison Run, held in the Changi area of Singapore, celebrated its 15th anniversary with a record turnout of about 11,000 local and overseas participants, taking part in 10km and 5km categories.
This year’s run, which took place last Sunday, was flagged off by Singapore’s Senior Minister Lee Hsien Loong and Minister for Communications and Information Josephine Teo. In addition to achieving the highest number of participants in its history, the event also set a new fundraising record, raising a total of $557,370 to support the rehabilitation and reintegration of inmates, ex-offenders, and their families.
The run attracted a diverse group of participants, including community leaders, volunteers, and members of the public, came together to support the initiative aimed at providing second chances for those who have been incarcerated at Changi Prison. The event underscored the importance of community involvement in helping former inmates rebuild their lives and reintegrate into society.
Over the years, the Yellow Ribbon Prison Run has become a significant platform for raising awareness about the challenges faced by former prisoners and advocating for their acceptance in society. The presence of dignitaries like H.E. Suryo Pratomo, Indonesian Ambassador to Singapore, underscored the event’s importance in fostering inclusive communities across borders.
