The Philippines continues to shine in the tourism sector, earning recognition as the top diving destination in the Asia Pacific at the Travel Weekly Asia Readers’ Choice Awards 2024.
SINGAPORE, 15 October 2024 – The Philippines has been awarded the title of Best Dive Destination (Asia Pacific) for the second consecutive year at the Travel Weekly Asia Readers’ Choice Awards 2024. Philippine Ambassador to Singapore, H.E. Medardo G. Macaraig, accepted the award on behalf of the Philippine Tourism Promotions Board (TPB) during a ceremony held at the Conrad Singapore Orchard Hotel.
The Travel Weekly Asia Readers’ Choice Awards is a prestigious event that recognises outstanding contributions within the tourism industry. This year, the ceremony highlighted several key winners in the Asia Pacific region, including Singapore’s Sentosa as the Best Island Destination, Singapore Airlines as the Best Airline, and Changi Airport as the Best Airport. Japan was also celebrated as the Best Destination.
In a statement following the award, the TPB emphasised that this accolade reflects the Philippines’ abundant natural aquatic resources and its reputation as a premier destination for marine biodiversity. “With breathtaking coral reefs and a dazzling variety of marine life, our waters offer a true diver’s paradise,” the statement read.
The Philippines previously received the same honour in 2023 and 2021, solidifying its status as a leader in dive tourism. The Travel Weekly Asia Readers’ Choice Awards has become an esteemed accolade in the industry, presenting a total of 36 awards across seven categories this year. The winners were selected based on criteria such as overall excellence, professionalism, and innovation, with voting conducted from 10 July to 31 August 2024.
