Hon’ble Union Minister for Education, Shri Dharmendra Pradhan, engaged in high-level discussions with Singaporean leaders and institutions, focusing on deepening cooperation in education, sustainability, and skill development

Singapore, 23 October 2024 – Hon’ble Union Minister for Education, Shri Dharmendra Pradhan, recently visited Singapore, where he held several impactful meetings aimed at strengthening India-Singapore educational and strategic partnerships. His engagements included discussions with Mr. Kim Yin Wong, Group President and CEO of Sembcorp Industries, where they focused on developing clean energy systems and advancing energy justice through innovative technologies. This collaboration reflects shared sustainability goals between India and Singapore.

During his visit to the National University of Singapore (NUS), Minister Shri Dharmendra Pradhan met with Professor Tan Eng Chye, President of NUS. The two discussed leveraging academic and research strengths to build knowledge bridges between NUS and top Indian Higher Education Institutions (HEIs). They explored potential collaborations in areas such as medical technology, digitalization, and sustainability, aligning with the objectives of India’s National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 to internationalise education and enhance access for Indian youth.

Minister Shri Pradhan also met with Singapore’s Minister for Foreign Affairs, Dr. Vivian Balakrishnan, where both leaders expressed their commitment to strengthening the India-Singapore Knowledge Partnership. They agreed to work closely to elevate bilateral cooperation in education to new heights, aiming to foster deeper collaboration across multiple academic and research fronts.

In a separate meeting, Minister Shri Pradhan called on Singapore’s Prime Minister, Mr. Lawrence Wong, for discussions on elevating bilateral cooperation in school education, vocational training, and research. They emphasized the importance of deep tech, start-up ecosystems, and innovation as key pillars of future collaboration. This discussion built on the framework set by Hon’ble PM Narendra Modi and PM Wong to transform India-Singapore relations into a comprehensive partnership.

Minister Shri Pradhan also met with Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Trade & Industry, Mr. Gan Kim Yong. Their talks focused on cooperation in skills-based education and training, where both leaders stressed the importance of developing future-ready competencies. They agreed to enhance knowledge exchange as a core element of the India-Singapore Comprehensive Strategic Partnership, establishing knowledge as a key pillar of bilateral relations.
