The forum marked key milestones in U.S.-Indonesia ties, with discussions focused on economic growth, digital transformation, and future investment opportunities
Singapore, 25 October 2024 – The US-ASEAN Business Council (USABC) and the American Indonesian Chamber of Commerce (AICC) hosted a business forum in New York to celebrate 75 years of diplomatic relations between the United States and Indonesia on October 22, 2024. The event also marked the 40th anniversary of the founding of both USABC and AICC. The forum brought together key industry leaders and government representatives to discuss the future of economic cooperation between the two nations.
Governor of Bank Indonesia, Mr. Perry Warjiyo, in his virtual remarks, emphasised Indonesia’s openness to investment. “With a stable macroeconomic environment, growing sectors like energy and the digital economy, and ongoing reforms, Indonesia remains an attractive destination for both U.S. companies and global investors,” he stated. He also highlighted the importance of strengthening trade relationships with key partners, particularly the United States.
The forum’s highlight was a fireside chat with Governor Perry, where he discussed Indonesia’s economic environment under the Prabowo administration. This was followed by a panel discussion featuring Mr. Jeremy Sturchio, Senior Vice President at Visa, and Mr. Tessal Febrian, Director of the Indonesia Investment Promotion Center (IIPC) in New York, focusing on Indonesia’s growing digital economy and investment landscape. In recognition of 75 years of U.S.-Indonesia relations, USABC and AICC awarded Bank Indonesia the “Distinguished Service Award for U.S.-Indonesia Economic Relations” for its significant contributions to strengthening bilateral ties.
Mr. Marc Mealy, USABC’s Chief Policy Officer and Senior Vice President, emphasised Indonesia’s growing role in global supply chains, stating, “The U.S. private sector is eager to continue supporting Indonesia’s ambitious growth targets.” He also expressed enthusiasm for engaging with Indonesia’s new administration to explore further opportunities for bilateral economic collaboration.
