A 20-member delegation from the Singapore Press Club visits Sri Lanka to explore its culture, economy, and landscapes, aiming to strengthen cultural and professional ties
SINGAPORE, 1 November 2024 – A 20-member delegation from the Singapore Press Club (SPC) embarked on a goodwill mission to Sri Lanka from October 31st to November 9th, 2024. Led by SPC President Patrick Daniel, the group aimed to deepen their understanding of Sri Lanka’s culture, economy, politics, and people. This annual mission was organised at the request of Sri Lankan High Commissioner Senarath Dissanayake.
Throughout their stay, the SPC delegation planned to explore Sri Lanka’s natural beauty and cultural diversity by visiting iconic locations, such as Colombo, Nuwara Eliya, and Minneriya National Park. Key engagements included meetings with Prime Minister Dr. Harini Amarasuriya, Northern Province Governor Mr. Nagalingam Vethanayahan, and Honorary Consul General of Singapore in Sri Lanka, Dr. Jayantha Dharmadasa. Additionally, the itinerary offered experiences like a highland train ride, a tuk-tuk safari, and a tea factory tour, showcasing the local culture and scenic landscapes.
In preparation for the trip, the High Commission of Sri Lanka organised a pre-departure briefing on October 24, 2024, held at its premises in Singapore. High Commissioner Dissanayake welcomed SPC members, including Vice President Bagman Singh and General Manager Janet Wee, and expressed gratitude to the Non-Resident High Commissioner of Singapore to Sri Lanka, HE S. Chandra Das, and SriLankan Airlines, along with other sponsors, for their support in facilitating travel arrangements.
The Singapore Press Club, founded in 1971, plays an active role in connecting Singapore’s media professionals, including journalists, broadcasters, and public relations experts. Upon their return, SPC members are expected to share insights from their Sri Lankan journey across social media, printed media, and television channels, potentially boosting Sri Lanka’s tourism appeal in Singapore.
