SABIC’s new Singapore facility enhances Asia-Pacific manufacturing capacity, producing high-performance ULTEM™ resin for high-tech industries.

SINGAPORE, 7 November 2024 – SABIC, a global leader in the chemical industry, has inaugurated its US$170 million (S$220 million) ULTEM™ resin manufacturing facility in Singapore, its first advanced specialty chemical manufacturing facility in the region. The state-of-the-art facility is part of SABIC’s strategic expansion to meet surging demand for high-performance thermoplastic ULTEM™ resin, widely used across high-tech sectors in the Asia-Pacific, particularly in Japan and China.

The opening ceremony was attended by key dignitaries including Ms. Low Yen Ling, Singapore’s Senior Minister of State for Trade and Industry and Culture, Community and Youth; Eng. Khalid H. Al-Dabbagh, Chairman of the Board of Directors of SABIC; Eng. Abdulrahman Al-Fageeh, SABIC’s Chief Executive Officer; and Mr. Omar Al-Harthi, Deputy Head of Mission, Embassy of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia in Singapore.

Supported by the Singapore Economic Development Board (EDB), this investment signals SABIC’s commitment to strengthening regional supply chains and catering to the complex needs of Asia’s high-tech industries. Ms. Low Yen Ling emphasised the facility’s role in advancing Singapore’s standing as an Energy & Chemicals hub and supporting regional demand across high-tech fields.

Eng. Abdulrahman Al-Fageeh expressed enthusiasm for SABIC’s regional integration, stating, “The ULTEM™ resin facility reflects our long-term commitment to supporting Asia’s high-tech economies with advanced materials. Singapore’s extensive trade network offers an ideal base for expanding our reach in Asia.”

EDB’s Executive Vice President Lim Wey Len highlighted the facility as an endorsement of Singapore’s capabilities, reinforcing the nation’s chemicals sector and driving growth in high-performance applications such as mobility and electronics. “We welcome like-minded partners like SABIC to leverage Singapore’s talent pool and innovation landscape to meet evolving global needs,” he added.
