Philippines, Australia, and USA collaborate at Gardens by the Bay

Nov 13, 2024 | Australia, IN Diplomacy, Philippines, United States

Gardens by the Bay celebrates a unique collaboration with the Philippines, Australia, and the USA, highlighting flora, fauna, and sustainability. This season, the gardens features three remarkable showcases: Carnival of Flowers with vibrant Australian plants, the Filipino-themed Bahay Kubo: A Fiesta of Orchids, and the Educational Race to Sustainability event, engaging nearly 5,000 students

Gardens by the Bay has recently launched a few of initiatives that celebrate both cultural diversity and environmental stewardship. On 23 September 2024, Carnival of Flowers debuted as Gardens by the Bay’s first Australian-themed floral display, in partnership with the Toowoomba Regional Council. Featuring over 8,000 Australian plants like waratah and kangaroo paws, this display transforms the Flower Dome into a vibrant piece of Australia’s natural heritage. Mayor Geoff McDonald and CEO Felix Loh celebrated the collaboration as a unique opportunity for visitors experience Australia’s botanical treasures.

Adding to the multicultural showcase, Bahay Kubo: A Fiesta of Orchids opened on 16 September 2024 in the Cloud Forest, celebrating Filipino heritage. Anchored by a traditional Bahay Kubo house and featuring over 40 native orchid species, including the iconic Waling Waling, this display honours Filipino community spirit. Filipino volunteers and cultural groups, including the Filipino Cultural Club and HOME, collaborated closely with the Gardens’ horticulturists, creating an authentic display that marks the 55th anniversary of Singapore- Philippines diplomatic relations.

In a commitment to sustainability, ‘Race to Sustainability’! Kicked off on 23 October at the Supertree Grove. This two-day flagship event engaged 5,000 students from 21 schools in activities focused on conservation, biodiversity, and climate change as the part of the Clean & Green Singapore campaign. CEO Felix Loh expressed pride in the program’s role in educating future generations
on environmental issues. Public exhibitions, such as Jeff Hong’s Unhappily Ever After series and Sustainable Singapore: Today and Tomorrow, along with solar-powered electric cruisers backed by OCBC, underline the Gardens’ commitment to eco-innovation and carbon reduction.

By blending cultural celebration with sustainability education, Gardens by the Bay continues to inspire visitors, fostering an appreciation of biodiversity and a shared commitment.

Magazine cover for IN Diplomacy (Singapore Special Edition 2026) celebrating 60 years of diplomatic friendship between Egypt and Singapore. The central artwork is a vibrant, impressionistic painting that blends cultural symbols from both countries. Egyptian elements include the Pyramids of Giza and a tall obelisk, while Singapore is represented by the Merlion fountain, a sailboat on the water, and tree-like structures resembling the Supertrees at Gardens by the Bay. Warm red, orange, gold, and purple tones dominate the composition. A red banner across the upper portion of the artwork reads “Egypt & Singapore – 60 Years of Friendship,” with the number “60” rendered in gold. Along the bottom, the cover states that the publication was produced in collaboration with the Embassy of the Arab Republic of Egypt in Singapore.
