ASEAN leaders laud Saudi Arabia’s efforts in promoting moderate Islam and combating extremism, emphasising unity and cooperation in Islamic leadership.

Minister of Islamic Affairs, Dawah, and Guidance Sheikh Dr. Abdullatif Al Alsheikh held a series of meetings on 26 January 2025 in Bangkok during the 3rd Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) International Conference, “Khair Ummah.” The event was organised by the Ministry of Islamic Affairs, Dawah, and Guidance.

Dr. Al Alsheikh met with delegations from various ASEAN nations, including Singapore, Laos, and Myanmar. The Singaporean delegation was led by Minister for Social and Family Development, Masagos Zulkifli, while the Laotian delegation was headed by Somboune Khan, President of the Islamic Organization. Myanmar’s delegation was represented by Dr. Asad bin Ismail, Director of the Bareq Institute for Arabic Language and a member of the Muslim World League (MWL) Supreme Council.

During the discussions, the leaders praised Saudi Arabia’s efforts in promoting the principles of moderate Islam, combating extremism, and countering hatred. They highlighted the Kingdom’s role in empowering Islamic leadership and fostering awareness of correct beliefs to combat extremist ideologies.

The meetings also explored topics of mutual interest related to Islamic affairs, further strengthening cooperation among participating nations. The conference serves as a platform to unite Islamic leaders in promoting understanding and shared values across ASEAN countries.
