Strengthening bilateral relations, India and Singapore celebrate enduring partnership on Republic Day.

Singapore, 27 January 2025 – The High Commission of India in Singapore, led by Dr. Shilpak Ambule and Dr. Mayuri Ambule, hosted a reception at the Shangri-La Hotel to commemorate India’s 76th Republic Day. The event was graced by Mr. Chee Hong Tat, Singapore’s Minister for Transport and Second Minister for Finance, as the Guest of Honour, highlighting the robust ties between the two nations.

Dr. Shilpak Ambule reflected on India’s achievements, including advancements in space exploration, sports, and cultural heritage. He emphasised key bilateral milestones from the past year, such as the India-Singapore Ministerial Roundtable in August 2024 and the elevation of ties to a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership during Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit in September 2024. He remarked, “Prime Minister Modi visited Singapore in September 2024, elevating ties to a comprehensive strategic partnership. This year, we plan to continue political exchanges and promote trade and investment flows.”

The event featured an exhibition of India’s rich cultural diversity, curated by the Tribal Co-operative Marketing Federation of India. Highlights included Sambalpuri silk, Patachitra paintings from Odisha, Pashmina shawls from Jammu and Kashmir, and other traditional crafts. Attendees were also presented with curated jute bags containing these items.

Minister Chee Hong Tat commended India’s rapid economic growth, technological progress, and rich cultural heritage while reflecting on the 60th anniversary of diplomatic relations between India and Singapore. He said, “India is a civilisation of deep history, abundant talent, and rich cultural practices, rising as a global power with a fast-growing economy. Its progress has transformed millions of lives through advancements in digital infrastructure, education, and sustainable development.”

Additionally, the Indian Film Festival was launched last week in Singapore, screening 18 films in seven languages at the Golden Village Suntec City. The event celebrates India’s rich cinematic culture and serves as a bridge for deeper cultural exchange.

The evening concluded with a toast to the health and prosperity of Singapore’s President, Mr. Tharman Shanmugaratnam, and a shared commitment to fostering stronger ties between India and Singapore.
